2 questioned in search for carjackers that killed 3 kids
The manhunt for two suspects in a fatal carjacking is on hold as detectives question two men believed to have information
PHILADELPHIA — The manhunt for two suspects in a fatal carjacking is on hold as detectives question two men believed to have information, Philadelphia's police commissioner said Monday.
Police are not calling the two men brought in late Sunday suspects, but expect to announce updates Monday on the crash that killed three children.
Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told KYW-AM that he's satisfied the manhunt can be relaxed.
"I'm satisfied that we don't have to have a manhunt out there right now. Let's deal with what we have now and unless things take a turn, then we're pretty confident that we have people who can have valuable information we need to bring this to a successful conclusion," Ramsey told the station.
Police have been focused on the search since the three siblings, ages 7 to 15, were killed Friday and their mother critically injured.
The men fled on foot after crashing a stolen vehicle Friday at a corner where the family was selling fruit for a church fundraiser.
Two other women were injured, including a real estate agent carjacked at gunpoint about a mile away. She was ordered into the back seat of her Toyota 4Runner as the men sped through North Philadelphia. Police believe they may have blown a tire before crashing the vehicle.
The children's mother, 34-year-old Keisha Williams, remained hospitalized in critical condition. Police have identified her slain children as 15-year-old Keiearra Williams, 10-year-old Thomas Reed and 7-year-old Terrence Moore. The family's 65-year-old friend was struck and injured as she tried to jump out of the way at the fruit stand.
A $110,000 reward is being offered in the homicide case.
