BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A police department is defending the actions of an officer in a video that has gone viral, which shows the officer pulling a gun on the occupants of a vehicle during a traffic stop.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the vehicle had reportedly entered an area in which police were searching for armed robbery suspects.
The Boynton Beach Police Department addressed the video on their Facebook page, saying the 2013 incident “was thoroughly investigated, and based on the totality of the circumstances, the investigation revealed the officers’ actions to be justified. We encourage members of the public to educate themselves with the facts of this case and not utilize social media to fuel tensions. Too often, people draw strong and definitive conclusions based upon clips of video and information. That’s not how this complex world works.”
A police report stated officers could smell marijuana coming from the car.
The driver was charged with obstructing an officer without violence after becoming combative during the incident, according to the report.
